Conflict of Interest Policy
Last updated: May 2026
This policy explains how the Foundation identifies, records, and manages conflicts of interest so decisions remain fair, transparent, and focused on the Foundation’s charitable aims.
1. What is a conflict of interest
A conflict of interest may arise when a person’s personal, family, financial, employment, business, or other interests could influence, or appear to influence, decisions made for the Foundation.
2. Duty to declare
Trustees, directors, staff, volunteers, advisers, and partners involved in Foundation decisions should declare actual, potential, or perceived conflicts as soon as they become aware of them.
3. Managing conflicts
The Foundation may manage conflicts by recording the conflict, excluding a person from a decision, seeking independent advice, comparing alternatives, requiring additional approval, or deciding not to proceed with an arrangement.
4. Connected parties
Extra care should be taken where decisions involve family members, connected businesses, partner organisations, paid services, use of Foundation assets, grant awards, sponsorship arrangements, or procurement.
5. Records
The Foundation should keep a record of declared conflicts, decisions made, and steps taken to manage the conflict appropriately.
