Goods handling
Storage & Handling Policy
Last updated: May 2026
This policy explains how the Foundation aims to store and handle donated goods safely, respectfully, and efficiently before resale, reuse, recycling, donation, disposal, or other processing.
1. Safe handling principles
Goods should be handled with reasonable care to reduce injury, damage, contamination, loss, and confusion. Heavy or awkward items should only be moved where it is safe and practical to do so.
2. Storage standards
Where possible, goods should be stored in a clean, dry, secure, and organised area. Items should be kept away from hazards, avoidable moisture, pests, and unauthorised access.
3. Segregation of goods
Accepted goods, goods awaiting inspection, rejected goods, recycling, disposal items, and suspicious or unsafe items should be separated where practical to reduce mistakes and protect safety.
4. Collection equipment
Boxes, bags, containers, and other collection equipment supplied by the Foundation remain Foundation property unless agreed otherwise. They should be used only for agreed goods and kept in reasonable condition.
5. Disposal and recycling
Unsuitable items may be recycled, disposed of, or binned responsibly where practical. The Foundation may update handling practices as operations grow or requirements change.
